The rake of a roof is the outer edge that runs from the eave to the ridge or peak of the roof. Use larger rake boards such as 1 by 4 inch and 1 by 6 inch when there isn t an eave overhang on the gable end. One by 2 inch rake boards often cover the exposed top edge of the siding when there also is an eave overhang on the gable end. The combination of two numbers are used to display or show the roof pitch.

Roof pitch is a term describing how steep or flat your roof slope is. The rake is lightweight ergonomic designed with wheels to protect the shingles. It is typically perpendicular to the eave. The shape of angles does not allow end lapping they are butted together.
